European Cycling: Ireland, Italy, Germany And Europe Bicycle Tours

European bicycle tours are a popular activity among tourists and locals alike. Known for its culture and politics, Europe also offers gorgeous geographic scenery with a mix of wide-spread plains, river valleys, rolling hills, and immense mountain ranges. European cycling tours are filled with history, culture, and the beauty of the land.

Cycling is an integral element in European culture. Most European countries have designated bike paths that wind through the county side and offer safety while in city limits. The Danube is one of Europe's most popular bike paths. The path travels along the bends and turns of the Danube River from Passau to Vienna. The Mosel bike path travels along one of the most beautiful rivers in Europe, the Mosel River,  and is located in the well known wine-growing region of Germany.

As with many other travel options, cycling may not appeal to everyone. Why bike? Cycling is cheaper in the long run than using the Eurail and there are no gas costs as there are when driving. It is great exercise, a wonderful opportunity to meet people, and cycling offers a rich experience of the culture and the country side.

European bicycle tours can be a mini-weekend tour covering a few hundred miles, or a full tour of thirteen days or more covering over five hundred miles. Depending on the level of difficulty, there are twenty-five to forty miles of cycling per day. According to Euro Bike and Walking Tours, their moderate/easy cycling tour covers twenty-five to thiry-two miles a day. This cycling tour can be challenging at times, but only a minimum fitness level is recommended. A moderate difficulty cycling tour covers a maximum of forty miles per day. A challenging cycling tour covers up to forty-five miles per day with occasionally longer climbs. A high fitness level is recommended for the challenging bicycle tours.

The Euro Bike and Walking Tours offer a variety of cycling tours throughout Europe. The Italy bicycle tours cover the coast of Tuscany to Elba Island. The tour also extends to Venice, the romantic and historic city built on water. These cycling tours take riders through vineyards, along side cypress trees, green pastures, and through small towns that still remain true to the old world ways.

Italy cycling tours with Euro Bike and Walking Tours cost from $1,920 to $3,420 depending on the trip and time of year. These cycling tours last five to nine days and include breakfast and a few dinners. Spring and fall are the most popular seasons and are more expensive. The winter months are chilly in much of Italy. In the summer, Venice temperatures range from 86 to 91 degrees.

Ireland is home to a few large cities, but most of the country is rural. Cycling through Ireland is a great way to see why it is called the Emerald Island. Robin Krause, author of “Ireland by Bike,” says that the saying, “forty shades of green” is no exaggeration when describing the rolling hills of Ireland's vast landscape.

Iron Donkey Bicycle Touring offers a distinctive range of bicycle tours in Ireland, England, Wales and Italy. Ireland bike tours with Iron Donkey are relaxed and fit for all moderate to experienced cyclers. The Ireland bicycle tours cover the shores of Lough Corrib to The Aran Islands to the Causeway Coast, which is a stretch of a beautiful coastline that is considered by many to be one of the finest coastal sceneries in all of Europe. The tour also extends to the glens of Antrim, which is filled with waterfalls and glacier valleys. These seven day Ireland cycling tours start at $1,809. They include great hotel accommodations, bike rental, breakfast, and six dinners.

Tucked away in central Europe is Bavaria, Germany. A region of pine forests, Alpine landscapes with clear mountain water fed lakes is a prime location for Germany bicycle tours. With Bents Tours, Germany cycling tours cover the land stopping in Spa towns, beer-brewing 8th Century monasteries, art galleries, fairytale castles, and a great view of Germany's highest peak, The Zugspitze. These cycling tours are available in nine or thirteen day trips. Hotel accommodations are included. The nine day tours start at $1,051, while the thirteen day tours start at $1,301. In the late summer months the average temperature in the Bavaria area is 73 degrees (23 C) with an average of eight hours of sunlight.

There is so much more that can be seen when cycling. The sounds and smells, the terrain, and the sights show a different side of Europe. When traveling in Europe, take a cycling tour to experience the lay of the land, the history, and culture that the continent has to offer.
