Repairing Deflated Bike Knowledge
Imagine you are cautiously, but aggressively biking down an open county road. No stop lights. No yield signs. No laws.
Your opponent is not a peloton full of world-class riders, rather overpowering and inconsiderate semi-trucks. Despite these opposing factors, you keenly concentrate.
With mile 30 quickly approaching, your legs feel surprisingly fresh, cranking fervently like pistons when- POP- the bike uncontrollably curves out of control. You are in the middle of nowhere with a flat tire, and your knowledge of bicycle repairs is limited to say the least.
While some bicycle repairs are seriously complicated, the majority of them are easy to fix. If you can learn to fix them, you will save both time and money.
Here is a list of the most common bicycle repairs:
Flat Tire: Experiencing a flat tire is a relatively common experience. As soon as you realize your tire is punctured, quit riding. If you continue to ride on a flat tire, you risk bending the frame of your bicycle. Move to a safe location at the side of the road and remove your flattened tire by opening the quick-release on your bike. Remove the wheel and deflate the tire. Pry the flattened tire at several places to remove the tire. At this point, you should be able to take off the tire. In order to reinstall the new tire, inflate it so to the point where you see fewer seams. Hold tightly to the new tire while you inflate and insert the valve stem .25 into the rim. Fit the tube completely inside the tire. Make sure the entire tubing of the tire properly fits onto the wheel’s frame. Remove the pump and make sure the tire is fitted properly on the wheel by spinning it. Continue inflating the tire until the pressure reaches the appropriate amount. Reattach the wheel to the bike’s frame and get back up on the saddle. The once-intimidating bicycle repair has been defeated.
Chain Protection: This is one of the quickest and easiest bicycle repairs. Having a properly functioning chain is crucial to making sure your bike rides as it is supposed to. After putting some miles on your bike, check the chain to see if it is beginning to wear out. Shift the gear into a large chainring and make sure the chain measures 12 inches between two pins. If it does not measure exactly 12 inches, you could be in need of a new chain. Occasionally wipe your chain clean with a rag. Also, wipe down the crankset and the cassette. Taking care of your bike is the biggest form of bicycle repair prevention.
Faulty Brake Pads: This bicycle repair may sound a lot more complicated than it actually is. Occasionally, you may notice your pedal power is not producing higher speeds. This may be due to a brake pad rubbing against your tire, which will inevitably slow you down and quickly increase fatigue. Misaligned wheels are the cause of most break pad rubbing. For example, if you recently readjusted your wheels, the new alignment may have caused your brake pad to rub against your wheel, even if you were not braking. To remedy the annoying and literally exhausting problem, simply realign and center your faulty tire.
You have attached the new tire and inflated it. No longer are you hesitant to make a bicycle repair. Back to chasing the white dashes on the road.
